Introduction

Hello, and welcome to the STEAD/STEED One-Name Study. The Study was formed in 1996 by Shelagh Mason, with a handful of members and the purpose of collecting as much information as possible on the STEAD/STEED surnames and all variants. Since then, the Study has amassed a huge amount of genealogical data, and we have enrolled over 240 members worldwide.

In October 2005, the running of the Study was taken over by Bob Steed (of Somerset). If you have any enquiries about the Study, any genealogical questions or any family information you would like to share, he would be delighted to hear from you. Click HERE for the full details of the Study.

What's On the Website?

While you are here, why not search our databases for your ancestors. Are any of our members are researching your line? Most of them have email addresses which are listed on the site so you can contact them directly.

You can look up all the STEAD/STEED births, marriages and deaths in England and Wales from 1837 to 1900 in our General Register Office Index database. If you're lucky, you may find more details in our rapidly-growing collection of Birth, Marriage & Death certificates. You can also search over 1,500 wills and probate records in our Wills and Probate Index.

In addition to these, the Study has an ever-growing library of resources, which is available to members.
